Excellent low drop trail/OCR shoe

I have run 45+ Spartan races of every distance, including the Ultra, in the Salming Element. Whether a mountain race, or desert, these shoes perform. Excellent traction on the muddiest slopes and obstacles. The fit is performance and fits my foot like a glove so I can really feel the terrain, yet there is plenty of room in the toe box. I’ve never once lost a toenail even on the most grueling mountain descents with wet feet. The lugs on these puppies will have you up a rope in a flash. Ultra lightweight with decent drainage. Low drop for nice forefoot strike. The Element is also my go-to trail shoe for training runs, as they are fairly minimalist without all that extra sole flare that some of the more popular trail shoes have. I feel like it helps prevent taking diggers because there is less shoe to catch on roots and rocks. Although the lugs wear out faster than those on Vibram soles, I personally prefer more flexibility over durability, because for me, it just feels like my gait is much more fluid. I’ve tried MANY shoes touted as OCR shoes, including Spartans Craft OCR shoe. None of them even compare to the Salming Element. The company nailed this shoe in my opinion. I keep several pairs around and run in my older ones for training so I have fresh lugs to conquer the course in races!!! I’m going to continue to buy them as long as they’re being made :). I buy a half size up, due to the performance fit. No heal slip whatsoever. I run in these straight out of the box, no break-in period required!
