What is the best way to get to Sedro Woolley? Where do we meet?
-
Most climbers will fly into Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) the evening before the program and rent a car for the hour and forty-five-minute drive to Sedro-Woolley, Washington. Plan to meet your group for orientation and gear check at the Guide Hut by 8:00 am the day of the climb. The Guide Hit serves as a meeting location and a retail store with climbing and gear rentals. Group transportation is not included within the price of the trip. You will need to coordinate your own personal transportation from the meeting location to the trailhead. Northwest Alpine Guides will email you Pre-Climb info including gear list and departure details upon registration.
-
What are the accommodations like? Can solo travelers get their own tent?
-
You'll be tent camping for the entire trip. The camp is located at either Sandy Camp (6,000 ft) or Hogsback Camp (6,000 ft) depending on mountain conditions. Mountaineering camping equipment is included and tents will be double or triple occupancy. Only climbers traveling together can share a tent due to new safety protocols. If you're a solo traveler you will be provided with your own personal tent. To minimize pack weight, Northwest Alpine uses the lightest, high-quality mountaineering tents, stoves, and group equipment.
-
What is the food like?
-
Northwest Alpine Guides will provide group meals (this includes two breakfasts and two dinners) while on the mountain. Breakfast will include items such as oatmeal, bagels, Pop Tarts, fruit and granola bars. Dinner will include items such as chicken, beef, pork, pasta, noodles, tortellini, vegetables, rice, beans, Tasty Bites, cheese, and freeze-dried food. Hot drinks like coffee and tea will also be provided. Lunch and snacks are not included and food for lunches will need to be purchased ahead of time. If you have special meal concerns, please plan to bring your own food to supplement what is already provided by the operator. Vegan freeze-dried foods are available for purchase at the Guide Hut.
For lunch and snacks, Northwest Alpine Guides recommends a variety of snack food for eating on the go as you won't be stopping for a big lunch break; you'll eat during short maintenance breaks throughout the day. The idea is to keep your energy level up for the climb, eating small amounts about every hour or so. Some examples of snack-lunch foods are dried meats (salami), jerky (turkey, beef, fish), tuna fish, cheese, crackers, bagels, dried fruit, nuts, chocolate, candy bars, gummy candy, cookies, energy bars, and GORP trail mix.
-
How much extra money should I bring?
-
Plan to bring $25 for a trailhead parking pass for five days (per vehicle), plus money for gratuities and anything additional you may need for lunches or snacks. A National Parks pass may suffice for parking.
-
What gear do I need to bring? Can I rent gear?

For your safety and comfort, it is extremely important that you adhere strictly to the equipment list. Many items such as mountaineering boots, ice axe, crampons, harness, helmet, sleeping bag, backpack, clothing, etc. may be rented directly from the Guide Hut in Sedro-Woolley. The Guide Hut also offers a selection of retail items, including outdoor apparel and accessories; camping equipment; nutrition supplies; and climbing gear.

Should I purchase travel insurance? If so, do you have a recommended provider?
-
We highly recommend purchasing travel insurance for all trips. Travel insurance allows you to seek reimbursement if you are forced to cancel your trip for unforeseeable reasons, or if you need to cover medical help, emergency transport, and/or theft or accidental damage while traveling. For travel insurance, we recommend VisitorsCoverage.
-
Are there special requirements for entry into the destination I am visiting?
-
We recommend you visit the local government websites where you plan to travel and review the required documentation for entry, current restrictions, and general recommendations for travel within the area. We encourage you to also visit your home country's embassy website if you are traveling to a foreign country. Requirements can change rapidly. Please be sure you stay abreast of the requirements and restrictions for anywhere you plan to visit. You can also enroll in the U.S. government’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) and you will be sent updates if the situation in your destination changes. You can find the program link at https://step.state.gov/.
