How do I redeem my voucher and for which travel dates is it valid?
-
To redeem your voucher, simply reach out to KB Tambo Tours as instructed in your confirmation email, and be sure to provide your order number. Travel dates are available between May 9 - November 21, 2021. Generally, trips depart once or twice a month starting on Sundays during the voucher period. Please refrain from making travel arrangements until you receive confirmation from KB Tambo Tours.
-
Are private departures available?
-
Yes! Private departures are available and the trip can usually be customized to suit your needs. Additional costs may apply for private departures. Please contact our Adventures Team to explore pricing and availability.
-
Are departures guaranteed?
-
Please note there is a two-person minimum required to guarantee each departure date. Please wait to make travel arrangements until you receive confirmation from KB Tambo Tours.
-
Does this trip include Machu Picchu?
-
No. This allows you to save money on the cost of a Machu Picchu visit, by giving you the option to go on your own before or after the trip, (which can be arranged if you're interested). It is an easy day trip from Ollantaytambo, either before or after this trip, or else on Day 2.
-
What is the best way to get to the trip start location?
-
You should fly in and out of Cusco, Peru (airport code CUZ) and plan to arrive before 10:00 am on Day 1 and leave anytime on Day 7. A tour representative will meet you at the airport. It is best to buy a roundtrip, "through ticket" from your home city to Cusco. You'll most likely pass through Lima, but when purchasing your tickets you should choose Cusco as your final destination.
-
What are the accommodations like?
-
Your nights in Ollantaytambo are spent in a hand-picked, personal favorite hotel of 3-star quality, complete with house llamas roaming the spacious grounds. The other three nights are spent in an adorable, family-run hostel that KB Tambo has used for fifteen years, located in the heart of a remote, authentic Inca village.
-
Can solo travelers get their own room? Is there a single supplement fee?
-
Yes. If you are a solo traveler and would like your own room, you'll need to pay the single supplement fee of $260.
-
How large is each travel group?
-
Group size is a minimum of two persons, average of four, and a maximum of eight.
-
Are meals included? What is the food like?
-
For a list of included meals, please see the itinerary. All other meals not listed in the itinerary are at your own expense. The food in Peru is delicious. Fresh, local, and not processed. Breakfasts are typically fruit and fruit juice, bread and jams, eggs, and coffee. You'll eat at recommended restaurants for part of the trip, and on the expedition in the mountains you'll eat a variety of grains like rice and quinoa, tons of fresh local vegetables including ‘choclo’ (giant kernels of corn), chicken (always a vegetarian option), and a ridiculous amount of avocados and guacamole!

How much extra money should people budget?
-
The restaurant lunches and dinners will cost about $12 a lunch or $16 per dinner, including a beer, wine, or soft drink. About $150 or so for meals, plus the optional Machu Picchu visit would cost around $230. Many people take home unique gifts for their friends and family, which although inexpensive, would add another one or two hundred dollars. Overall, bringing $300 or $400 should cover everything, plus additional money for tips and another $250 if you also wish to visit Machu Picchu.
-
What should people bring? Do you have a packing list?
-
A complete packing list is included with the Welcome Packet upon booking.
-
Are there additional activities that customer can purchase?
-
Yes, KB Tambo is happy to help with any additional activities before or after your trip, including a visit to Machu Picchu. If interested, please contact our Customer Service Team for additional information.
-
Should I purchase travel insurance? If so, do you have a recommended provider?
-
We highly recommend purchasing travel insurance for all trips. Travel insurance allows you to seek reimbursement if you are forced to cancel your trip for unforeseeable reasons, or if you need to cover medical help, emergency transport, and/or theft or accidental damage while traveling. We recommend VisitorsCoverage as a provider.
-
Are there special requirements for entry into the destination I am visiting?
-
We recommend you visit the local government websites where you plan to travel and review the required documentation for entry, current restrictions, and general recommendations for travel within the area. We encourage you to also visit your home country's embassy website if you are traveling to a foreign country. Requirements can change rapidly. Please be sure you stay abreast of the requirements and restrictions for anywhere you plan to visit. You can also enroll in the U.S. government’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) and you will be sent updates if the situation in your destination changes. You can find the program link at https://step.state.gov/.
