Is my departure guaranteed?
Adventure Journeys requires a minimum of 2 people per date in order to guarantee each departure. If you are a solo traveler, please wait until you receive confirmation from Adventure Journeys before making any travel arrangements.
How do I get to Quito, Ecuador?
American Airlines, Delta, United, and Copa, among others, serve Quito. Most flights will route you through either Miami, Houston, or Atlanta.
What if I want my own room—is there a single supplement?
Pricing is based on a shared room, double occupancy. If you’d prefer your own room, you can pay the single supplement fee of $410 directly to Adventure Journeys upon booking.
Should I purchase travel insurance? If so, do you have a recommended provider?
Travel insurance is required for this adventure. It allows you to seek reimbursement if you are forced to cancel your trip for unforeseeable reasons, or if you need to cover medical help, emergency transport, and/or theft or accidental damage while traveling. For travel insurance, we recommend World Nomads.
How much extra money should I budget?
The trip fee covers most of your costs. However, you should allot at least $120 for meals not included in the itinerary (roughly $12 per meal), as well as additional money for alcohol, souvenirs, or other personal expenses.
What if I’ve never mountain biked before; is that a problem?
Although some experience will help you to enjoy the trip freely and widely, it’s not required. The guide will make an extra effort to take care of you, and you’ll just have to slow down and be more cautious on some sections of the trail.
What if I’ve never been rafting before; is that a problem?
Absolutely not. You’ll get a safety briefing before jumping into the raft, and the Jatunyacu River is great for both beginners and experts. The Jatunyacu’s Class II and III rapids are safe and fun, and considered some of the best in Ecuador, as well as one of the best rivers to learn on in South America. Depending on the group size, there will be safety kayakers in addition to the raft guide.
How many people are in each group?
There are a maximum of 15 people in each group.

What is the hiking like?
Hiking Activity Level- Moderate, this adventure is at high elevation, make sure you drink a lot of water or coca tea. The trail is on dirt surrounded by bushes and grass.
Hiking Time- 3 hours
Hiking Distance- 4 miles
Elevation Gain- 1200 feet
Minimum Elevation- 12700 feet
Maximum Elevation- 13850 feet
NOTE- In case the weather and physical conditions are good you may trek to the Basecamp and the maximum elevation would be 16000 feet.
What is the biking like?
Biking Activity Level- Moderate, mostly downhill, the first 45 minutes are up hill followed by a lot of downhill. You will be riding on cobblestone and dirt roads for the first 2 hours, and 1 hour on asphalt.
Biking Time- 3 hours
Biking Distance- 20 miles
Elevation Gain- 500 feet
Minimum Elevation while Biking- 5500 feet
Maximum Elevation while Biking- 10450 feet
NOTE.- In case you want to avoid the uphill, there will always be the support of our transportation, and our driver will be happy to give you a ride till you decide to join the biking group.
What is the rafting like?
Rafting Activity Level.- Moderate, this is considered a class III river for whitewater rafting. There are some awesome waves and plenty of flat water to go swimming, the river is surrounded by amazing views of the Amazon landscape.
Rafting Time- 4 hours, depending of the level of the water it can be shorter.
Rafting Distance- 18 miles
What is the canyoning like?
Canyoning Activity Level.- Moderate, the jungle exploration will be done while hiking in the canyon that has been formed by the waterfalls and the river Pimpilala. You will be hiking on irregular terrain on rocks and through water surrounded by pristine Amazon Rain Forest. The weather can be hot and humid which makes this a very refreshing activityI The highest waterfall to climb is 16 feet and the rest are smaller, we will use helmets, ropes and bring optional harnesses for people that want to use them.

What is the trekking like?
Trekking Activity Level.- Moderate, the trekking trail is on dirt sand and gravel, located in the Paramo Ecosystem at high elevation.
Trekking Time- 5 hours
Trekking Distance- 7.5 miles
Elevation Gain- 2500 feet
Minimum Elevation while trekking- 10000 feet
Maximum Elevation while trekking- 11470 feet
Can I cancel the trip?
You may cancel reservations up to 72 hours after the booking is made. After that time period, all modifications/cancellations will be granted solely at the discretion of Adventure Journeys. Cancellation processing fees may apply.
