The group ranges between 4-16 people, with an average of 12 like-minded clients traveling individually, as a couple, or with friends.
What is the best way to get to the trip start location?
You can either fly into Trieste Airport (TRS) in Italy (81 miles from Ljubljana) and rent a Goopti transfer or arrange for some other transfer to Ljubljana, or fly directly to the Ljubljana Airport (LJU) which is 16 miles from the city center. There are also regular shuttle bus connections to the city.
What are the accommodations like?
You'll spend five nights in family run 3-4 star hotels/guesthouses (two people sharing a twin/double room), with private facilities. The other two nights will be spent in mountain huts which room 4, 6, or 10 people. These are dormitory-style with shared facilities.
Can solo travelers get their own room? Is there a single supplement fee?
Rates quoted are per person, based on sharing double accommodations. If you are a solo traveler and would like to request single accommodations, you can pay a single supplement fee of €240 (approx. $270). If you wish to share accommodations, Cook Eat Slovenia will assign you a roommate of the same gender if one is available. Please be advised that there are a limited number of single rooms available. Single rooms are not available at the mountain huts.
What is the food like?
In this hiking adventure it’s all about the experience. You'll enjoy a mix that allows you to sample both the region’s most refined cuisine and also its most rustic traditions. While hiking you'll have the chance to try authentic Slovenian dishes: Blejska kremšnita – Bled custard-cream cake, Idrijski žlikrofi - pasta pockets filled with potatoes, onion, and minced pork fat-Zaseka, Kranjska klobasa – Carniola sausage, Štruklji – boiled or baked rolls of filo pastry with different kinds of filling (cottage cheese, walnuts, apples, tarragon), Jota – stew with sauerkraut or sauer turnip, Ricet – barley stew with smoked pork, Potica – Slovenia’s most distinctive dessert, Jabolcni zavitek – apple strudel, Frtalja – egg omelettes with fresh Mediterranean spices, and Pršut - Prosciutto.
How much extra money should people budget?
Plan to budget at least $300 USD for meals not included in the itinerary and other personal expenses.
What kind of pack do I need for the hiking portion of the trip? What do I do with the rest of my luggage?
