How do I redeem my voucher and for which travel dates is it valid?

To redeem your voucher, simply reach out to Cook Eat Slovenia as instructed in your confirmation email, and be sure to provide your order number. Travel dates are available between July 17 - September 18, 2021 and July 23 - September 24, 2022. Departures are not available from September 19, 2021 - July 22, 2022.
Generally, trips depart once or twice a month on Saturdays during the available voucher period. The operator recommends requesting your desired dates at least 60 days prior to departure in order to coordinate the logistics of your trip. Requests within the 60 day period may still be requested but may have a lower chance of being approved. Please wait for confirmation from Cook Eat Slovenia before making your travel arrangements.

Is my departure guaranteed?

Each departure requires a minimum of four participants in order to confirm. Please do not make travel arrangements until you have received confirmation from Cook Eat Slovenia.

What is the minimum and maximum guest group size?

The group ranges between 4-16 people, with an average of 12 like-minded clients traveling individually, as a couple, or with friends.

What is the best way to get to the trip start location?
-
You can either fly into Trieste Airport (TRS) in Italy (81 miles from Ljubljana) and rent a Goopti transfer or arrange for some other transfer to Ljubljana, or fly directly to the Ljubljana Airport (LJU) which is 16 miles from the city center. There are also regular shuttle bus connections to the city.

What are the accommodations like?

You'll spend five nights in family run 3-4 star hotels/guesthouses (two people sharing a twin/double room), with private facilities. The other two nights will be spent in mountain huts which room 4, 6, or 10 people. These are dormitory-style with shared facilities.

Can solo travelers get their own room? Is there a single supplement fee?

Rates quoted are per person, based on sharing double accommodations. If you are a solo traveler and would like to request single accommodations, you can pay a single supplement fee of €240 (approx. $270). If you wish to share accommodations, Cook Eat Slovenia will assign you a roommate of the same gender if one is available. Please be advised that there are a limited number of single rooms available. Single rooms are not available at the mountain huts.

What is the food like?

In this hiking adventure it’s all about the experience. You'll enjoy a mix that allows you to sample both the region’s most refined cuisine and also its most rustic traditions. While hiking you'll have the chance to try authentic Slovenian dishes: Blejska kremšnita – Bled custard-cream cake, Idrijski žlikrofi - pasta pockets filled with potatoes, onion, and minced pork fat-Zaseka, Kranjska klobasa – Carniola sausage, Štruklji – boiled or baked rolls of filo pastry with different kinds of filling (cottage cheese, walnuts, apples, tarragon), Jota – stew with sauerkraut or sauer turnip, Ricet – barley stew with smoked pork, Potica – Slovenia’s most distinctive dessert, Jabolcni zavitek – apple strudel, Frtalja – egg omelettes with fresh Mediterranean spices, and Pršut - Prosciutto.

How much extra money should people budget?

Plan to budget at least $300 USD for meals not included in the itinerary and other personal expenses.

What kind of pack do I need for the hiking portion of the trip? What do I do with the rest of my luggage?

For the three days of hut to hut hiking, you'll need a backpack with your essentials for the next three days. All other luggage can be left in the hotel and after coming back from the mountains you'll pick it up.

Should I purchase travel insurance? If so, do you have a recommended provider?

Travel insurance is required for this adventure. It allows you to seek reimbursement if you are forced to cancel your trip for unforeseeable reasons, or if you need to cover medical help, emergency transport, and/or theft or accidental damage while traveling. Are there special requirements for entry into the destination I am visiting?

We recommend you visit the local government websites where you plan to travel and review the required documentation for entry, current restrictions, and general recommendations for travel within the area. We encourage you to also visit your home country's embassy website if you are traveling to a foreign country. Requirements can change rapidly. Please be sure you stay abreast of the requirements and restrictions for anywhere you plan to visit. You can also enroll in the U.S. government’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) and you will be sent updates if the situation in your destination changes. Can I cancel or modify my trip?

If there are travel restrictions precluding you from entering the country or the operator is forced to cancel due to local restrictions the following policies will apply:
Up to 60 days prior to departure*
You may postpone or modify your trip up to 60 days prior to departure with no fees or penalties.
You will have the option to:
1) Select a new travel date within two years of your original departure date, or
2) Select a new adventure or destination, or
3) Receive 100% lifetime store credit toward a future trip.
*Please note, when choosing a new date, you must choose a date within the same travel season in 2022 or 2023 to avoid any additional trip costs. If you select a new adventure, you will be responsible for the difference of any additional trip costs above the value of your current trip.
If there are no travel restrictions in place, the following policies will apply:
Up to 60 days prior to departure*
In some cases, you may have the option to postpone your trip within 60 days prior to departure.
If this is available at the time of your request, you will have the option to:
1) Select a new travel date within one year of your original departure date. Additional trip costs may apply and new dates are subject to availability, or
2) Receive a lifetime store credit toward a future trip. Standard cancellation fees will apply.
