How can I prepare for the high altitude?
-
Your guides will lead you on various acclimatization hikes throughout your trek, allowing you to grow accustomed to the altitude gradually.
During the climb, it's recommended that you:
•Abstain from consuming alcohol and caffeine
•Drink over 4 liters of bottled water daily (little and often)
•Take a Diamox pill to help alleviate symptoms of altitude sickness. Most mountain climbers take Diamox in the morning before starting an ascent, in order to reduce discomfort associated with altitude sickness. It's recommended that you consult your doctor prior to the trip to discuss side effects and whether this pill is suitable for you.
Many people don’t sleep well at high altitudes. Because of a reduction in your waking breathing pattern, your body gets less oxygen than it did during the day. You might start to feel sick and/or have a headache. Pay attention to any such symptoms you might have and inform your guide immediately if you think you might have altitude sickness.
-

We highly recommend purchasing travel insurance for all trips. For travel insurance, we recommend VisitorsCoverage as a provider.
-
Are there special requirements for entry into the destination I am visiting?
-
We recommend you visit the local government websites where you plan to travel and review the required documentation for entry, current restrictions, and general recommendations for travel within the area. We encourage you to also visit your home country's embassy website if you are traveling to a foreign country. Requirements can change rapidly. Please be sure you stay abreast of the requirements and restrictions for anywhere you plan to visit. You can also enroll in the U.S. government’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) and you will be sent updates if the situation in your destination changes. You can find the program link at https://step.state.gov/.
