What is the best way to get to the trip start location?
-
Plan to fly into Cusco, Peru (CUZ) and meet your guides at the hotel by 1:00 pm on Day 1. Airport transfers are not included in the trip, however you can request them (for an additional fee) through Aspiring Adventures.
-
Do I need a visa?
-
No, U.S. citizens don’t need a visa to enter Peru.
-
What are the accommodations like?
-
Pricing is based on a shared room (double occupancy) accommodations. You'll be staying in clean, comfortable, and backpacker-budget level hotels for four nights, and tent camping for two nights.
Campsites have basic facilities. On day 2 you'll be camping off a back road in the Sacred Valley - here there are bathroom facilities, but no showers. But the scenery more than makes of for that, with spectacular mountains and fertile farmland all around. On day 3 you'll be camping at Lares hot springs, where there’s restroom facilities and natural hot spring showers, all set in a stunning location.
-
Can solo travelers get their own room? Is there a single supplement fee?
-
As a solo traveler, you can choose between paying a single supplement for your own room/tent, or requesting to share with someone of the same gender. If there is no one to share a room with, you’ll need to pay just half the single supplement fee and will be given your own room. Please contact our Adventure Team to explore pricing and availability.
-
What is the food like?
-
During the two nights of camping, you'll have delicious meals prepared by Aspiring Adventures' masterful cook who works miracles, such as cooking up cheesecake in a tent. There will also be lunch at a private home in the Sacred Valley and meals at various Peruvian restaurants (from down-home traditional cooking, which means massive plates of protein and rice, to fancy novo-andino fusion).
-
What is the mountain biking like?
-
Level of difficulty: Thanks to the variety of Cusco's terrain, all riding days offer different options for riders at different skill levels. All riding days offer intermediate singletrack and/or easy road riding. On three of the riding days (days three, four and five) there is the option of some sections advanced enough to satisfy anyone!
Distances ridden: Riding distances each day are flexible - Aspiring Adventures has full vehicle support so people can jump in the vehicle and shorten these distances anytime they like. There is also the possibility of doing extra distance for people who just can't get enough! For a breakdown of the distances ridden each day as well as the type of terrain, please see the itinerary.
-
How much money should people budget?
-
For meals that are not included, a budget of about $80 will more than cover it, but you can bring up to $120 if you want to splurge! You should also plan on bringing additional money for tips and other expenses not included in the trip cost.
-
What camping gear should I bring?
-
You should bring your own sleeping bag, mat, and tent for the two nights of camping, or you can rent from the operator for $25/item. All other camping equipment is provided by the operator.
-
What should I pack?
-
Upon booking, you'll be provided with a detailed clothing and equipment list to guide you in your packing. If you’d like a detailed packing list prior to booking, please email us. There is vehicle support each day, so you won’t have to carry your gear while riding, but don’t pack too heavy and remember to allow space to take souvenirs home!
-
Should I purchase travel insurance? If so, do you have a recommended provider?
-
We highly recommend purchasing travel insurance for all trips. Travel insurance allows you to seek reimbursement if you are forced to cancel your trip for unforeseeable reasons, or if you need to cover medical help, emergency transport, and/or theft or accidental damage while traveling. For travel insurance, we recommend VisitorsCoverage.
-
Are there special requirements for entry into the destination I am visiting?
-
We recommend you visit the local government websites where you plan to travel and review the required documentation for entry, current restrictions, and general recommendations for travel within the area. We encourage you to also visit your home country's embassy website if you are traveling to a foreign country. Requirements can change rapidly. Please be sure you stay abreast of the requirements and restrictions for anywhere you plan to visit. You can also enroll in the U.S. government’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) and you will be sent updates if the situation in your destination changes. You can find the program link at https://step.state.gov/.
